Removal Order - William ANDREW b1793

December 7th, 2010 (08:54 am)

I have cut down some of the legal verbiage here for clarity.

To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Ashwater in the County of Devon and to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Woolfardisworthy in the said County and to each and every (sic) of them.

Upon the complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Ashwater, that William ANDREW, Catherine his wife, Asa their son aged three years and Ann their daughter aged four years and a half did lately come to inhabit in the said parish of Ashwater not having gained a legal settlement there, nor produced any certificate owning them to be settled elsewhere and that the said William Andrew, Catherine his wife and Asa and Ann their children are actually become chargeable to the said parish of Ashwater.

We the said Justices ... upon the examination of the said William Andrew, do judge that the lawful settlement of them the said William Andrew, Catherine his wife and Asa and Ann their children is in the said Parish of Woolfardisworthy in the County of Devon.

We do therefore require you, the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Ashwater, to convey the said William Andrew, Catherine his wife, Asa and Ann their children, from and out of your said parish of Ashwater to the said parish of Woolfardisworthy and them to deliver to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor, together with this our order.

And we do also hereby require you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Woolfardisworthy to receive and provide for them as inhabitants of your parish.

Given under our hands and seals the nineteenth day of June in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-three.
